The lift is Dwemer in origin, and is one of seven entrances to Blackreach, which must first be entered by traversing the ruins of Alftand, Mzinchaleft, or Raldbthar and using the Attunement Sphere from Septimus Signus to open a door to Blackreach.Nighthollow keep is separate from Arkthzand library (which you're likely trying to enter). Both are in Markarth's Blackreach, but Nighthollow keep is in the southeast area of it. I'm not sure if it has anything preventing you from accessing it earlier, but if there is, just do the story quests for Markarth. 6.Nchuthnkarst is a Dwemer ruin located in Dusktown Cavern in Blackreach: Greymoor Caverns.
