To check your FPS in-game, simply change [FPS:NO] to [FPS:YES] in init.txt, and your FPS will be displayed on the top row of the screen. Yes, you can try. Lowering [FPS_CAP:X] in the data\init\init.ini file can lower the speed of the game. If you're running at your FPS cap, increasing it can increase the speed of the game. Normally, however, the cap is not reached and your processor speed is the bottleneck.The default is around 100fps, I believe. By turning up the FPS you can speed the game up, essentially allowing dwarves to take more steps (/perform more actions) within a given amount of real-world time. Whilst my games often start getting laggy once I have dozens of dwarves, tons of ducklings and a variety of liquids sloshing around on my map ....
