No 4WD is almost certainly NOT related to the differential leak at the left CV axle. First guess would be the axle disconnect between the oil pan and the right-side CV axle. But it could also be a failed transfer case. I've had both on my '03, at different times. I do know when it gets too low, the front diff makes a chattering and rattling around 30 mph when cold.So, the front diff leaks, I think it has for all the 15 years I've had it. It's been dry a couple of times, I'm sure. I don't think it is the outboard axle seal, I replaced it with the GM seal, still leaks. From the oil/dust pattern on it, it sort of looks like it is coming from the drain bolt. I'm thinking of thread tape there.
